Gumby had been returned to the animal shelter 11 times since 2014.

Three  times he was found on the streets and eight times he was returned by an adoptive parent. His seventh adoption was a success.

Staff members at the shelter decided to give up and keep him as their own.  Gumby thought the shelter was his home, it's where he wanted to be all along. So staff members decided to make it his official home, saying “he rarely ever tried to escape while in their care.”
