Well technology might be catching up with drunk drivers.

Police might have a system that can tell if you’re drinking just by firing a laser into your car.

Scientists tested the device by aiming the laser at cars passing about 70 feet away and were able to detect alcohol vapor at concentrations of 0.1 percent.

If alcohol vapors are detected in the car, a message with a photo of the car – including the license plate – is sent to a cop waiting down the road.

The cop would then stop the car and check for signs of alcohol using conventional tests like breathalyzers.

The designers admit that the device would also identify cars where the driver is sober but the passengers are not – or if there is spilled alcohol in the car.

And of course, there’s always the foolproof strategy of driving around with the windows open to make sure the fresh air is pushing out all the drunk breath before it can be sensed.

But the idea that an officer can zap your car with a laser and sense booze is pretty amazing – and could possibly get people to think twice before getting behind the wheel after having a few. (Daily Mail)
