The Kennedy Center Honors are recognizing a two-time Oscar winner, a ten-time Grammy winner, a children's classic, a champion of American classical music, and one of the most innovative and commercially successful musical acts of the past half-century.
The new honorees recognized last night are actor Sally Field who was feated by Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg, singer Linda Ronstadt who was introduced by Don Henley, “Sesame Street,” conductor Michael Tilson Thomas, and Earth, Wind & Fire. The legendary act is the first African American group to receive the honor.
John Legend, Cynthia Erivo, Ne-Yo and the Jonas Brothers performed the band’s classics and David Copperfield spoke. Bert and Ernie, Big Bird, and Cookie Monster were on hand to celebrate “Sesame Street.”
The ceremony will air next Sunday night on CBS.
