Winchester Police investigate pedestrian killed by tractor-trailer

WINCHESTER, VA – On January 1, 2020 at approximately 10:20 p.m., Winchester Police (WPD) responded to the rear parking lot of 820 Berryville Avenue for a report of a pedestrian struck by a tractor-trailer. The driver reported to police that his truck had been parked on the lot for one day, as this is where the vehicle is kept while he is not working. The truck driver began moving the vehicle and traveled a few feet when he realized he ran over something. He exited the truck and found a male lying on the ground. A call was placed to 9-1-1.

WPD and Emergency Medical Services from Winchester Fire and Rescue were called to the scene. The male, identified as Michael Kenneth Martin, 56 years old, with no fixed address, was transported to Winchester Medical Center where he succumbed to his wounds. An advanced accident investigator and a detective from WPD responded to the scene to investigate the incident. It is expected that no charges will be placed.
