U.S. & Canadian Scientists Team Up Against "Murder Hornets"

American and Canadian scientists are teaming up to combat "murder hornets," as their nesting season begins. U.S. federal agencies are joining with scientists from Washington and British Columbia to track, trap and eradicate the Asian giant hornets. They especially want to target queens, because each queen that's taken out of commission also takes out a potential nest. The hornets can destroy entire hives of honeybees, which are critical pollinators for crops like raspberries and blueberries. Last year, there were 31 confirmed sightings of the hornets in Washington.
