This Is What Happens When You Use Hand Sanitizer & Smoke In Your Car

Hand sanitizer is made up of mostly alcohol, so it makes sense not to have it near a flame . . . or a cigarette.

A driver learned the hard way after a car burst into flames when the driver used hand sanitizer while smoking a cigarette. The fire was reported early yesterday afternoon at a shopping center in Rockville. Montgomery County fire officials say the driver was burned when embers from his lit cigarette fell into his hands while he was using the sanitizer.

The driver escaped with minor injuries, but his car was a total loss. A Fire and Rescue spokesman pointed out that hand sanitizer and cigarettes are a bad combination in an unventilated area like a car.
