A researcher at Oregon State University has learned how fish talk. Jill Munger was studying recordings from underwater microphones in the National Park of American Samoa and heard damselfish calls. They grind their teeth to create pops, clicks, and chirps associated with aggressive behavior and defense of their nest. She compares it to purring kittens. Jill says the information can be used to better understand changing ocean conditions.
