Southhaven Middle School in Mississippi is catching some heat online over what’s being called a misguided attempt to address body image problems with its students. In a letter sent home with the girls at the school, counselors asked parents to give permission for their girls to be given “shapewear, bras, and other health products” to help girls having body image issues.

One 8th-grader’s mother posted the letter on Twitter and Facebook, saying she would be contacting the school district. She did, and the next day Southhaven Middle School principal John Sartain replied, apologizing for the letter and confirming that the plan had been canceled.
