A town in Sweden is training wild crows to pick up cigarette butts and throw them away to help keep the streets clean. The ‘Corvid Cleaning’ project is teaching crows to pick up the butts and drop them into a machine that dispenses food for the birds every time they put one inside the device.
The town currently spends over $2 million a year on street cleaning, which the project’s creator says is six times what it will cost to use trained crows. They also expect to train other birds to use the vending machines as well.
