Being in labor that goes on for hours on end can be exhausting to the mom, especially with the first nights with a newborn that follow. The partner who was by your side and cheering you on may need to catch up on rest as well, but that doesn’t mean that seeing them snoozing on the couch while you’re wide awake and in pain won’t annoy you. And that’s probably why one mom’s method to keep her hubby awake in the delivery room has gone viral.
Samantha Mravik-Miller shared her “Mom hack level 1,000” in a Facebook post and it all comes down to two words: Nerf gun. “Worried about the nights in the hospital with your newborn and dad sleeping?,” the Wisconsin mom of three writes. “Well … then don’t forget one of these in your hospital bag.” In the photo she posted, she’s holding up a bright orange Nerf gun, aimed right at her husband, who’s snoozing in the delivery room.
The clever mama says she came up with the idea after her experience with her first child’s birth, when her hubs fell asleep and she couldn’t reach her call button, so she used what she had. “I resorted to throwing a water bottle at him to get his help,” Samantha admits. “And I missed.” So when her next child was born, she slipped a Nerf gun into her bag, but never had to use it. Her post has been shared nearly 20,000 times and she says she’s not surprised her post resonated with so many other moms, explaining, “I knew I couldn’t have been the only mom who looked at her husband snoring away with useless man nipples after birth and wanted to take a shot with a Nerf gun.”
