People Announces Their 2022 People of the Year

As December begins, more year-end lists are emerging. Announced yesterday: "People" magazine's 2022 People of the Year.

The criteria for the honor is simple: people that go out of their way to help, in large and small ways, in and out of the public eye, are considered. People has announced their four for 2022, and they are:

  • Matthew McConaughey: When his hometown of Uvalde, Texas was devastated by a mass shooting last May, McConaughey and his wife, Camila, immediately returned there. There was no plan, just a gut-felt need to listen, help and heal. They talked to the victims' families and took their stories of loss and anger with them to Washington, DC to urge gun reforms. One month later Congress passed historic federal gun legislation.
  • Quinta Brunson: The Emmy-winner created "Abbott Elementary" because she wanted a show that would bridge generational divides, that would get her and her parents and grandparents laughing at the same jokes. "Having the same laugh is really important to me," she says. "I think it's spiritual, I think it's healing." Her popular and critically-acclaimed show is the result of that dream.
  • Jennifer Hudson: Hudson made it her mission "to create a platform for everyone, just so we all have a place to feel included," she says. Her new show aims to do just that, and puts the bow on an incredible year for the actor/singer, in which she became, at 41, the youngest woman ever to achieve EGOT status ( Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony Award winner).
  • Mila Kunis: Russia invaded Ukraine in February - and friends of Mila Kunis reached out to the actor, assuming she could tell them where to give and how to help, since she was born in Ukraine. Mila knew she had to act. Not knowing where to start didn't slow her down: "We didn't have a solution, so we created one." To date, she's raised $37M for refugees in need.

All four of these incredible people will be honored with their own covers when People's 2022 People of the Year issue comes out this week.
