How much would it have sucked to blow over $1,000 on an “eclipse flight,” and not even get to see the eclipse? Mirtha Donastorg is a reporter for the Atlanta Constitution-Journal, and she was on one of the flights to experience it firsthand. Among the highlights for her was the goody bag that contained a hat, socks, other apparel, and “a Moon Pie and Sun Chips.” Among the lowlights was the collective realization from passengers that perhaps an airplane wasn’t “the best viewing spot for an eclipse”…with or without glasses. First off, she says it never got fully dark as it would’ve while on the ground…and more importantly…those without window seats were essentially at the mercy of looking through the phone videos being taken by those who were in window seats. The pilot, however, did bank the plane from starboard to port so both sides could have a shot at a view…so there was that, but at least they got a batch of souvenirs and snacks during their journey from Dallas to Detroit.
