Postcard Delivered After 121 Years Helps Bring Family Together

A couple of weeks ago, a mysterious postcard was unexpectedly delivered to 11 Craddock Street in Swansea, Wales. Written by Ewart Davies to his sister Lydia Davies, the postcard was dated August 3rd, 1903, more than 121 years earlier, and its discovery has led to several of the siblings’ descendents getting to meet one another for the first time.

The Swansea Building Society, who now occupy the Davies’ former home, posted about the mysterious postcard on social media, asking for the public’s help in finding the proper owners. They were soon connected with Ewart’s grandson, Nick Davies, and Lydia’s great-nieces, Helen Roberts and Margaret Spooner, and great-granddaughter, Faith Reynolds, who recently traveled from across the UK to meet for the first time.

The newly acquainted cousins expressed their excitement over the family reunion, with Nick describing the experience as "extraordinary." They met at the West Glamorgan Archive, where the postcard will now be preserved so both the family and the public will be able to view a slice of local history. Henry Darby of the Swansea Building Society, says they’re thrilled to be part of the remarkable story and to have helped bring the family together.
