A Facebook Break Reduces Stress…With A Twist

Getting off Facebook can help you reduce stress but lowers happiness. Welcome to the Facebook “catch 22.”

A new study examined 138 Facebook users, and found that those who took a five-day break had a drop in a stress hormone called cortisol. While that’s great, their happiness and satisfaction levels went down!

The researchers say the large amount of social information on Facebook could be taxing, and taking a break from it can help. Basically, take breaks from social media when you need to, but then jump right back in.

The study is in the Journal of Social Psychology
