South Korean University Is Facing Backlash For Killer Robot Program

Artificial intelligence scientists from around the world are boycotting a South Korean university because of possible research into killer robots.

The Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) is working with defense firm Hanwha Systems to explore AI that some scientists fear could lead to destructive autonomous machines.  More than 20 nations already have a ban on lethal robots and the U.N. is holding a meeting on the subject next week in Switzerland.

The president of the university said he was saddened by the boycott and that his institution has no intention to develop killer robots.  He went on to say “I reaffirm once again that KAIST will not conduct any research activities counter to human dignity including autonomous weapons lacking meaningful human control.”

We just have one word…. Skynet.
