Man Eats World's Hottest Chili Pepper, Gets 'Thunderclap' Headaches

A man had to recently go to the hospital after eating a Carolina Reaper, the pepper anointed as the world’s hottest by the Guinness Book of Records in 2013. According to reports after having excruciating neck pain, the 34-year-old experienced short but incredibly painful bursts of head pain known as "thunderclap headaches." The episodes got so bad that he eventually visited the ER. A brain scan didn’t reveal any major neurological issues, but several of his arteries did appear to narrow significantly - a condition called reversible cerebral vasoconstriction syndrome. According to doctors, RCVS typically goes away on its own within days to weeks.
