Next 5 Years to Be "Anomalously Warm," Scientists Warn

On Tuesday, a team of scientists published a study in Nature Communications which predicts that the next five years will be "anomalously warm" ones--heating things up beyond the sort of sweltering temperatures global warming would produce on its own. The science behind this prediction is mind-mumblingly complicated, but as The Washington Post explains, it wouldn't be surprising if the hottest year on record was soon recorded (2016 is the current titleholder) and a "major heat event" occurred somewhere in the Earth's oceans.
