...WINTER STORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 1 AM EST

THURSDAY...

* WHAT...Heavy mixed precipitation expected. Total snow

accumulations of 4 to 8 inches and ice accumulations of one tenth to a quarter inch are expected. Ice accumulations will likely exceed a quarter inch for elevations above 1000 feet.

* WHERE...Portions of north central and western Maryland,

northwestern Virginia and eastern West Virginia.

* WHEN...Until 1 AM EST Thursday. Snowfall rates of 1 to 2 inches per hour are expected through late this morning. Snow will change to sleet and freezing rain between 10 am and 1 pm this morning into this afternoon. Rain will continue to freeze on some surfaces through late tonight.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Travel will be very difficult. The

hazardous conditions will impact the morning and evening

commutes. The combined weight of snow, sleet and freezing rain could result in downed branches and isolated power outages.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A Winter Storm Warning means significant amounts of snow, sleet and ice will make travel very hazardous or impossible.

When venturing outside, watch your first few steps taken on steps, sidewalks, and driveways, which could be icy and slippery, increasing your risk of a fall and injury.
