Girl Scout Learns Heimlich, Saves Choking Niece Next Day

A Girl Scout in Idaho was paying attention at a troop meeting and it ended up helping her save a life. Lauren Terry,13, learned the Heimlich maneuver one night and had to put her new skill to use the very next day.

The teen was at home and heard her four-year-old niece, Jessie, making a sound in the kitchen. Lauren ran in and found the tot was choking, so she started the Heimlich and it worked in less than 30-seconds. She was awarded the Girl Scout Medal of Honor - one of the highest recognitions the organization gives - for saving her niece.
