Egypt is not a fan of viral videos. In fact, if you're a belly dancer or pop star, it's best if you put the camera down. In their efforts to police women’s behavior, Egypt is cracking down on young women who have become famous on social media platforms like TikTok and Instagram. Two women, who are social media stars, were found guilty on charges of “violating family values,” and both were sentenced to two years imprisonment. The court also found three men guilty on charges of helping post the women’s videos. The women both gained millions of followers for lighthearted videos they posted to TikTok and other platforms that show them dancing, singing, and clowning around.
