1. Check Your Air Filters & Look Around For a Build Up of Dirt.

2. Hose Off Your Outdoor Unit.

3. Get Your Burners Checked

4. Prevention is Worth a Pound of Cure.

1. Check Your Air Filters & Look Around For a Build Up Dirt.

Air Filtration not only keeps the air in your home cleaner, but also protects the heating and air conditioning. Dust can accumulate on the blower wheel, heat exchanger, and evaporator coils causing airflow issues.

It’s all about the Airflow.

2. It’s Safe To Hose Off Your Outdoor Unit.

Cleaning your outdoor unit keeps your system running efficiently. Have you ever held your hand above the fan on your outdoor unit in the summer? You’ll notice the air coming out is hotter than the outdoor temperature. The extra heat you feel is being removed from your home and getting dispersed outside.

The outdoor unit can build up debris, which makes it work harder and more likely to fail. So feel free to hose off your outdoor unit and clean it up a bit!

3.Dirty Or Aged Burners Are Dangerous. Get It Checked.

Gas furnaces by nature produce small amounts of carbon monoxide (CO).  The CO gas is collected in the flue and removed outside. If the burner and heat exchanger is starting to rust or become clogged with dust and debris, the furnace will start to burn dirtier. As the heat exchanger becomes rusty or dirty, it will then start to clog, releasing CO gas into your home. This is extremely dangerous and can lead to long term health issues or death if not caught in time. Always make sure you have a good working carbon monoxide detector in your home and have your furnace looked at before the heating season starts.

4. An Ounce of Prevention is Worth a Pound of Cure

Preventive maintenance is very important. Spring and Fall are the best times to have your system checked before the extreme temperatures hit. Regular maintenance can reduce the risk of costly breakdowns and an uncomfortable home when you need it most.

We like to recommend two-year intervals on equipment less than 6 years old and annually on equipment older than 6 years. If you are new to the home and are unsure of its age maintenance is highly recommended insuring its safety and reliability.
