A high school student from Arkansas got creative when it came to her prom dress.  Hailey Skoch took not just inspiration, but actual pages from the “Harry Potter” books to make her own gown. The 18-year-old says it’s her favorite book series and they helped her get through her parents’ divorce when she was younger.

Hailey spent four days ripping, folding, fanning, sewing and gluing the pages into an impressive design. She says she got the idea from a dress she saw on TikTok, but decided she could “do it better” herself. “I really wanted to do something more unconventional, and I’ve been obsessed with Harry Potter forever,” she explains. “I love to read. So I threw some stuff together and decided to make it a ballgown.”

It doesn’t hurt that Hailey had her mom, Valerie, who works as a costume maker, to lend her a hand with the design. The teen credits her mom with helping her with the corset and giving her some ideas for the bodice of the dress. And while she spent hours working on the dress, Hailey played the “Harry Potter” movies in the background to keep her motivated. Her gown was a big hit at the prom, turning everyone’s heads as she walked past.

  • Hailey has been getting a lot of attention online since posting photos of the dress on social media and says designers and photographers have reached out to her, as well as two different libraries who asked if they could put the dress on display.
  • While the teen was originally planning to pursue becoming a therapist, she says she’s now considering a career as a fashion designer.
