Love Skittles? Maybe not for long. The company is being sued over the allegations that the candies contain a "known toxin" that makes the rainbow candies "unfit for human consumption." The toxin in question? Titanium dioxide. In a statement sent by Mars to TODAY and several other news outlets, the company said: “While we do not comment on pending litigation, our use of titanium dioxide complies with FDA regulations.” And yes, it is – the FDA that regulates and approves its use in food products in the US – though it has been banned in a number of countries, including throughout Europe.
