Paul Mappley and Yip Ward were looking to own property, but the UK property market was too much for them. A friend offered to sell them a cottage in a village across the English Channel in France, and they wound up buying the entire village instead…for just $14k.
The village includes six cottages, two barns and a paddock, and a two-story workshop, cider press, and communal bread oven. There have already been challenges for the couple, including the fact that the village had no electricity, but they plan to someday turn the village into rental property.
