Murder Hornet Gets New Name

(Olympia, WA) -- The murder hornet's life of crime is over. The Entomological Society of America says it plans to rebrand the insect as the northern giant hornet. The Washington State Department of Agriculture will adopt the name change. The northern giant hornet was first sighted in North America in Washington in 2019. The insect can grow to more than two inches long and, with multiple stings, can kill a human.
