Australian researchers have studied the drinking habits and dementia rates among 25,000 people over the age of 60, and they say that the results show that people who drank two pints of beer a day were a third less likely to get dementia.

According to the study, the group that faces the highest risk of dementia is non-drinkers, they were a fifth more likely to be struck with the disease than heavy drinkers. The researchers say their findings show that abstaining from alcohol seems to carry no protective benefits against dementia.
