Toby Keith is opening up about his health after he revealed earlier this year that he’s battling stomach cancer.

The country music giant recently told CMT Hot 20 Countdown that he needs “a little but of time to just rest up (and) heal up. It’s pretty debilitating to have to go through all that. But as long as everything stays hunky dory, then we’ll look at something good in the future.”

Keith, 61, said in a statement in June that he was diagnosed with stomach cancer the previous fall. At that time, Keith had spend several months “receiving chemo, radiation and surgery,” he said in his statement. “So far, so good. I need time to breathe, recover and relax. I am looking forward to spending this time with my family. But I will see the fans sooner than later. I can’t wait. -T.” The “Should’ve Been a Cowboy” singer later shared a heartfelt message to “thank you for all your love and support. I have the best fans in the world.”

Last month, Keith took the stage for his first live performance since announcing that he would take “time to breath, recover and relax” amid his cancer battle. It was a surprise appearance at Jeff Ruby’s Steakhouse in Lexington, Kentucky, including a rendition of Keith’s 2003 smash-hit song, “I Love This Bar.”
