“Avatar: The Way of Water” has been out for less than two weeks and is already the third highest grossing movie of the year. The film brought its global take to $900 million over the weekend and has now easily passed the $1 Billion mark as of last night!
The sequel to the 11 year old “Avatar” film pulled in roughly $300 million from the North America box office alone, and another $700 million from overseas theaters. China, France, Korea, Germany, and India in particular are showing up in droves for the movie.
Will “The Way of Water” keep up this pace? Will the sequel surpass the original Avatar? The 2009 Avatar film pulled in $2.9 Billion over its lifetime, which may be hard to beat, but current pace puts “The Way of Water” on track to find itself near the top of the list of best selling films of all time. James Cameron already has two of the five best grossing movies of all time after all.
