Boy Gets High School Diploma At 9 And Heads To College

When David Balogun graduated from high school and started taking classes at Bucks County Community College, he became the youngest student to ever attend BCCC at nine-years-old. The Bensalem, Pennsylvania, computer whiz spent the last few years attending Reach Cyber Charter School remotely and earned his diploma last month, making him the second-youngest person ever in the U.S. to graduate from high school.

The nine-year-old Mensa member says the transition to college has been easy and he’s already completed three courses in the short time he’s been there. He’s using the community college as a way to keep progressing while he and his parents figure out his next steps. "We're looking at going to universities or Ivy League universities,” he says. “I'm looking into studying astrophysics, chemistry, artificial intelligence and engineering."

David’s mom and dad are proud of their son for his amazing accomplishments, but say raising such a gifted child comes with its own challenges. “He's a 9-year-old with the brain that has the capacity to understand and comprehend a lot of concepts beyond his years and sometimes beyond my understanding," David's mother, Ronya Balogun, says. David plans on earning his bachelor’s degree and has set a goal for himself to get his doctorate at 13.
