Tonight, the night before Thanksgiving, is often called "Blackout Wednesday" or "Drinksgiving," and it’s become one of the biggest drinking days of the year in the U.S., rivaling holidays like St. Patrick's Day and New Year's Eve. Lots of folks home for the holiday gather at local bars to reconnect with old friends, leading to a significant increase in alcohol sales, but also a bump in DUIs, alcohol-related accidents, and health issues related to excessive drinking. To try and be safer during the holidays, it’s a good idea to plan ahead by making sure there are non-alcoholic drink options, designating a sober driver or arranging transportation, and ensuring there are safe spaces for those who may overindulge.
