Dolly Parton announced the Search For Dolly ahead of her upcoming Broadway musical.
The beloved country star confirmed in June that she’s set to debut a Broadway musical about her life. Dolly: An Original Musical will feature music and lyrics by Parton and book by Parton and Maria S. Schlatter. It’s directed by Bartlett Sher. On Thursday (December 5), Parton shared a video on Instagram to announce the Search For Dolly, including how to submit an audition for the show:
“As you may have heard, my life story is coming to Broadway in a brand new show called Dolly: An Original Musical. And now, I’m announcing the Search For Dolly. Now, whether you’re chasing your dreams from a small town or you’ve spent years performing on stages across the country, I want to give you the chance to help me bring my story to Broadway, and maybe even play me. This show is a celebration of my music, my life and all the amazing people who’ve been with me along the way. Now we’re looking for talented performers who can capture the spirit of my journey, whether you’re an experienced theater professional or an undiscovered gem with that little special something. The selected few will get the chance to audition in person in front of our show’s casting director. …This might be your big moment to take centerstage and step into the spotlight. And hey, break a leg.”
Parton pointed people to DollyMusical.com for more information about the casting search. Parton said as she announced plans for the musical earlier this year that she’s “been writing my life story as a Broadway musical for several years,” and she’s proud to finally develop it for the Broadway stage. She joked that her Broadway musical will be a “Grand Ole Opera,” nodding to the historic Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, Tennessee. Watch Parton’s latest announcement about her musical here:
