On the second Friday evening of every month, you can find Caroline Gowan doing what she likes best - hanging out at her Warner Robins, Georgia, neighborhood laundromat. Caroline is 16-years-old and she comes with quarters, detergent, and dryer sheets and pays for strangers to have their clothes washed and folds it, too! She calls what she does Loads of Love.
It all started two years ago as a Girl Scout project that she started when she learned not everyone has a washer and dryer and that washing clothes at the laundromat gets expensive quick. Well, Caroline had such a good time meeting people in her community while washing clothes with them, she joined with her church to keep the free laundry going.
She thought she’d be helping homeless people at first, but mostly she helps people who have jobs, but they’re barely making ends meet. "It's taught me to have compassion,” she says. “A lot of compassion for other people, and to be thankful, because we are so blessed.” She adds, "Come in with dirty clothes, and leave with a renewed spirit."
