When Lady Liberty went dark the questions started coming.
Maintenance crews will be working this morning to find out why the Statue of Liberty went dark last night. The lights that illuminate the statue went off for several hours, leaving only Lady Liberty's crown and torch shining in New York Harbor.
The National Park Service said in a statement that a portion of the lighting system experienced a "temporary, unplanned outage." The Park Service says it probably is related to ongoing work on a new emergency backup generator.
Meanwhile, the internet did not disappoint with their take on the incident . . .
