A family evacuating their home in Redding, California during the Carr Fire was certain that their pet fish Grant wouldn’t make it. To their surprise, they returned to find the fish alive AND FED.
The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection shared the story on Twitter. “After a father informed his daughter that her fish was likely dead," the tweet offers. "Both were in for quite a shock when they returned home to a well-fed fish." It’s all thanks to Engine 1489, who left a handwritten note for the family that said “Fed your fish a few sprinkles. Sorry if we weren’t supposed to.”
Turns out, Grant’s aquatic home was a lucky one out of 1,100 homes that have been destroyed in the Carr Fire. Cal Fire has reminded locals to “remember to have a plan for all your pets” after the event.
