Maine Restaurant Gets Threats For Changing Fries

After changing the style of their fries, a restaurant in Waterville, Maine is receiving quite the backlash . . . including threats from their customers.

The owners of Bolley’s Famous Franks, Jim and Leslie Parsons, say outrage over the change from crinkle-cut to straight-cut fries have resulted in some customers getting violent – one man even threatening to fight Jim when he was kicked out for being disorderly.  “People come in with a negative attitude that the fries aren’t going to be the same,” says Jim.  “That’s a tough sale for us.”  The crinkle-cut fries were served at Bolley’s since it was founded in 1962, but it wasn’t disrespect of tradition that led to the changes – it was simply a financial issue due to the crinkle-cut blades being too expensive to maintain.

It hasn’t been all bad, though.  Since the media picked up the story, the owners have been contacted by the likes of TV chef Rachael Ray.  “I even had a newspaper from China ask if we could ship over there,” Leslie adds.  “We’ve got people coming in who are curious about it.  The feedback has been positive.”
