Husband Bought 55,000 Dresses For His Wife

You might expect the largest dress collection in the world to be in some designer’s warehouse somewhere, but it’s actually at Paul and Margot Brockman’s East Mesa, Arizona home.  The couple has been married for 61 years and their collection kept growing because 83-year-old Paul kept buying dresses for his wife.

“If I saw a dress that I really liked, well, I bought it,” Paul explains.  And over the years, his eye for fashion has chosen a lot of dresses – 55-THOUSAND to be exact!  The gowns fill the couple’s garage, a specially designed closet, and three 50-foot long containers.  His love for dressing Margot goes back to the night they met at a dance in their native Germany.  They danced and fell in love, and she can’t even remember the dress she was wearing, but he does.

And ever since, he’s been gifting Margot dresses, most of them secondhand and vintage because he loves the fashions of the ‘50s, with all the wide skirts and petticoats.  But they eventually ran out of room and Paul bought his last frock in 2014.  Now the couple wants to sell the collection all together, except for some 200 dresses they’ve kept for Margot.

Some wives would be upset to see tens of thousands of their gowns go, but Margot doesn’t seem to mind too much.  This may sound surprising considering she’s owned 55,000 of them, but Paul admits,”She’s not that much into dresses.”
