Kids Take Parents’ Car On 600-Mile Road Trip In Australia

A group of kids in Australia who really wanted to go fishing took one of their parent’s cars and hit the road. The four friends aren’t even old enough to drive, they’re all between 10 and 14, but they still grabbed their fishing rods, got behind the wheel and drove 600 miles to make it happen.

Their road trip took about 10 hours of driving non-stop and police inspector Darren Williams says the kids probably shared driving duties. According to the Australian Broadcasting Company, one of the youngsters left a note for his family saying where he was going. They stopped once for gas and reportedly had cash with them, but they’re still accused of stealing gas from a station.

Inspector Williams says the fishing buddies were found safe inside the vehicle late Sunday night, but they locked themselves inside the car when police tried to arrest them and the cops had to use a baton to get inside. He says charges will be filed against the kids after they’ve been questioned, but for now, their epic road trip is over and they’re all okay.

"It's a pretty big journey, and it's a long way for a young person,” Williams points out. “I suppose a couple of cans of Red Bull and you're likely to do anything.”
