It's "Fat Bear Week"! At Katmai National Park and Preserve

Katmai National Park and Preserve announced the the kickoff of their "Fat Bear Week" on Wednesday, according to Gizmodo. Each year, the park holds a contest to see which of their bears can pack on the most weight as they prepare for hibernation in the upcoming winter. Visitors to the park's Facebook page can vote for the bear they think weighs the most in daily matchups until a winner emerges at the end of the week. People can monitor bears' progress with bear cams at Explore.org. The park will also use 3D scans to determine actual bear weights. Voting closes on Tuesday, October 8th.
