You don't often hear about how rocks, that weigh over a ton, go missing. But that's exactly what happened to a local landmark in Arizona.
Officials in Arizona aren't sure who or what actually took the one-ton boulder known as "Wizard Rock" but they are glad that it was returned. The boulder just vanished in October from alongside Highway 89 in Prescott, Arizona. Officials believed someone used “heavy equipment” to remove the boulder, but nobody can recall seeing anything.
The good news is "Wizard Rock" has been located. Park Rangers at the Prescott National Forest found the boulder. They’re considering a new location for the rock, so visitors can see it more easily.
Forest officials reminded the public that permits are required before removing rocks, trees or other elements from a natural setting.
