“Law & Order”-Themed Elf On The Shelf

Lots of families are having fun with their Elf on the Shelf during the holiday season, but the New York Police Department has a very creative take on theirs. They’ve made him a member of NYPD’s 19th Precinct, named him Pete, and even gave him his own hashtag, #PeteOnTheBeat.

“In the criminal justice system, candy cane assaults are considered especially heinous,” their tweet hilariously begins. “In New York City, the dedicated detective who investigates these vicious crimes is a member of an elite squad & is known as #PeteOnTheBeat. These are his stories. #DunDun.”

The department gave Pete a uniform and also a backstory: turns out, he’s from the “far North on temporary assignment,” and he’s helping them launch a holiday pilot program that determines if “you’ve been bad or good.” Their tweets include photos showing Pete hard at work, surrounded by yellow crime scene tape and studying the “naughty list.” It looks like they’re having a lot of fun with Pete and we can all feel safer knowing he’s on the job.
