Back in 1963, Randy Gardner & Bruce McAllister were classmates who wanted to see how long they could go without sleep. What resulted, was a science fair project that saw Randy go sleepless for a record 264 hours. On the “Be Amazed” YouTube channel, Randy recalls the experience, from the coin toss that decided that he’d be the guy, stumbling, lack of focus, mood swings, and hallucinations that came along with going 11 days without sleep. What he says was most interesting was that after 264 hours, he couldn’t just go back to sleep, but when he was finally able to, he slept like a rock. It was fourteen hours before he finally woke up, with “zero side effects” to show for it.
