Social media users are getting around a longtime ban with a new hashtag.
Back in 2012, the hashtag #thinspiration was banned because of the disturbing pictures of women and girls looking deathly thin. Now, “#bonespiration” is resulting in even worse photos.
Imagine a girl showing off her rib cage and back bones. Here’s the most concerning part -- Psychologist Catherine Talbot of Exeter University Medical School said she had found 140,000 images on Instagram linked to bonespiration in the last week alone.
Of those, 26% of bonespiration images show protruding hip bones, 23% ribs and 22% collarbones.
Catherine Talbot says a ban isn’t what’s needed, classes on positive body image are.
