STOP WHAT YOU'RE DOING AND LISTEN TO THIS SONG

MICKEY GUYTON released her song, "Black Like Me", yesterday, and the timing is perfect. Not only is the message real, but it's something we NEED to hear and, hopefully, process. She co-wrote this song but it's definitely her story. And a little bit about Mickey herself if you aren't familiar...HERE. She's 100% going to be a game changer.

Here are the lyrics...but it's best you listen for yourself:

'Little kid in a small town

I did my best just to fit in

Broke my heart on the playground, mmh

When they said I was different

Oh, now

Now, I'm all grown up and nothin' has changed

Yeah, it's still the same

It's a hard life on easy street

Just white painted picket fences far as you can see

If you think we live in the land of the free

You should try to be black like me

My daddy worked day and night

For an old house and a used car

Just to live that good life, mmh

It shouldn't be twice as hard

Oh, now

Now, I'm all grown up and nothin' has changed

Yeah, it's still the same

It's a hard life on easy street

Just white painted picket fences far as you can see

If you think we live in the land of the free

You should try to be, oh, black like me

Oh, I know

I'm not

The only one

Oh, yeah

Who feels

Like I

I don't belong

It's a hard life on easy street

Just white painted picket fences far as you can see

And if you think we live in the land of the free

You should try to be, oh, black like me

Oh, and some day we'll all be free

And I'm proud to be, oh, black like me

And I'm proud to be black like me

I'm proud to be black like me

Black like me"

Can we make, "Black Like Me", a Number One song? Buy it, tell everyone you know to buy it, and leave positive reviews everywhere.

How great would it be for a black woman to top the COUNTRY singles chart right now? It would send a great message to the world and to other African American girls who are doing their best "just to fit in."

I haven't had a an easy time processing the state of the world right now. Hopefully I will be able to come up with more poignant words soon. But for now, I know how to love. I know empathy. I know how to be steadfast in a mission and I know how to fight. I will fight for love until the day I day.

For all of you. For all of us.

xoxo
