Let me start off by saying, I DO NOT scare easily. If anything, quite the opposite. I'm completely obsessed with True Crime and often fall asleep to American Horror Story or serial killer documentaries. However, every once in a while a movie or show comes along that really gets to me. In 1999, it was the original Blair Witch Project...which I thought was true until the cast showed up on MTV a month later. In 2007, it was the original Paranormal Activity and most recently, in 2018, it was The Haunting of Hill House on Netflix that did me in! Jump scares, ghosts, addiction, psychological spiraling...those are what I consider to be real, and TERRIFYING. For instance, the movie IT never bothered me. It was simply a guy in clown make-up. The Shining was a whole different ballgame. That joker lost his mind and his family too the brunt of his descent into madness. THAT could actually happen. THAT is scary.
Now, for those who haven't watched it, The Haunting of Hill House is based on a book, and yes, is about a Haunted House..but not in the ways you'd think. There are jump scares out the yin yang and I lost a few nights sleep after watching, but for some reason couldn't look away. The show was INCREDIBLY well-written and the actors were phenomenal. It left me longing for more more more!
When I heard that a new season was coming out, but would not follow the same story, I was intrigued to say the least. The same cast from HH will reunite on screen and be joined by some new cast mates as well. Here's the description of the new series The Haunting of Bly Manor from IMDB: After an au pair’s tragic death, Henry hires a young American nanny to care for his orphaned niece and nephew who reside at Bly Manor with the chef Owen, groundskeeper Jamie and housekeeper, Mrs. Grose.
In the trailer we see a lady popping out of a lake at night, old creepy dolls who move when no one is looking, and a child who knows they're there and addresses them directly! Call me chicken, but I'm creeped out already. Having said...I CAN'T WAIT to kick off SPOOKY SEASON on October 9th with this one!
