There’s Now A Camera That Detects You Using A Cell Phone While Driving

An Australian state is rolling out cameras designed to detect people using cell phones while driving.

Officials in New South Wales say it's the first time this kind of tech has been used anywhere in the world. Artificial intelligence will monitor the cameras looking for violations. They'll be put up around the state over the next three years.

Drivers get a three-month grace period before the fines start stacking up. A test of the cameras this year caught more than a 100-thousand violations. That means the fatalities on NSW roads could be cut by a full third.

The question now is, when will the US get the technology?
