With only two days left of his presidency, Donald Trump yesterday unveiled a list of 250 famous names who’ll be honored with statues at his planned “Garden of American Heroes,” which he first announced back in July during a speech at Mount Rushmore.
The list features a variety of figures in all areas including entertainment, sports, politics and more, with the monument set to honor “an individual who made substantive contributions to America’s public life or otherwise had a substantive effect on America’s history.”
Several musicians made the list including Johnny Cash, Miles Davis, Aretha Franklin, Billie Holliday, Frank Sinatra, Ray Charles, Nat King Cole, Elvis Presley, Whitney Houston, and Woody Guthrie.
Some of the names making the list are rather interesting choices, including several who aren’t actually American, including Alex Trebek, who is Canadian, and Alfred Hitchcock, who is British. Also, Guthrie is an odd choice for Trump, considering he once wrote a protest song about Donald’s father Fred Trump.
So far there’s no word on where the Garden will be located, or whether it will even happen, since President-elect Joe Biden could cancel it once he’s in office.
