Thousands of National Guard troops aren't leaving Washington, D.C. yet.
As many as five-thousand soldiers could remain stationed in the nation's capital through mid-March to deal with possible demonstrations around the Senate's impeachment trial of former President Trump. The trial is scheduled to start February 8th.
The House impeached Trump on one article of inciting an insurrection after his supporters stormed the U.S. Capitol to interrupt the certification of Joe Biden's election win. Around 25-thousand National Guard troops were called up to DC to secure Biden's inauguration.
