Some Drunk Birds Are Causing An Issue In Texas

A particular bird hanging around North Texas may have a drinking problem. The Cedar Waxwing is known for its social nature, enormous flocks, and gorgeous features. But the birds are also known for something else: getting 'drunk' on berries. "Because they eat predominantly berries, sometimes they eat berries that have fermented and are a little bit past their prime," says a biologist with the Texas Department of Parks and Wildlife. "Sometimes they tend to overindulge a little bit, which can get them intoxicated." The beautiful birds can get disoriented from imbibing the fermented fruit, causing them to act uncoordinated and fly into things and create more bird droppings than usual. Residents in the area have been complaining about these birds for some time. Officials are giving some advice to residents by telling them to never, ever walk under them unless they have an umbrella.
