A veteran rider from Louisiana will try to become the first Black jockey in 119 years to win the Kentucky Derby. Kendrick Carmouche has the mount on Bourbonic, who earned a spot in the Derby after an upset victory in the Wood Memorial.
The colt has morning-line odds of 30-to-1. It's the first Derby ride for the 37-year-old Carmouche, who is the son of a jockey and has won more than three-thousand races in his career.
The last Black jockey to win the Kentucky Derby was Jimmy Winkfield in 1902. The Kentucky Derby is set for May 1st.
