You wake up on a Saturday morning to mow the grass, and you find that part of your yard is gone. That’s what Paul Ivory says happened to him Saturday morning; overnight, a large hole around six to seven feet across opened in his backyard in Pasco County. Ivory says he’s glad it happened at night because he or a pet could have been injured if it had happened during the day.
Pasco County Emergency Management responded to Ivory’s call; the local fire department painted a perimeter around the hole, and the family was told to call them if the hole continued to grow and reached the paint. Ivory thinks the heavy downpour of rain Tropical Storm Elsa dumped on the area is to blame; so far, officials haven’t classified it as an official sinkhole.
